Earth Day 2022

Hello again!

It cannot be a coincidence that the life of our eco-focused founder, Melanie Hartwig-Davis, began the same year as the annual Earth Day celebrations over five decades ago in 1970.

For this year’s Earth Day, HD Squared will be celebrating by participating in KICK GAS! In Annapolis: Drive Electric Earth Day evening EV Showcase! We will be showcasing our very own HD Squared EV – our Volkswagon ID4.

Join us Friday April 22 from 6pm – 9pm at the Annapolis Visitor Center (26 West Street at Gott’s Garage). You can find us with Annapolis Green and the Inner West Street Association.

The Burtis House Project Begins!

We are thrilled to announce HD Squared has been awarded Phase One of the Burtis House Preservation Project – a project that personifies our passions – Historic Preservation, Resiliency and Adaptive Reuse.

glenn dale remodel

In 2018, Annapolis City Dock was chosen by the National Trust for Historic Preservation as one of the 11 Most Endangered Historic Places. The Burtis House restoration is one of the first phases of the larger Annapolis City Dock Resiliency Project that addresses the ongoing destruction due to sea level rise and climate change.

Once one of many small-framed vernacular homes of the ‘Hell Point’ neighborhood, the Captain William H. Burtis House is the last historic 19th Century waterman’s cottage left at the Annapolis City Dock waterfront after the US Naval Academy annexed and condemned the rest of the neighborhood in 1941.

Ownership has recently passed from the State of Maryland to the City of Annapolis, opening the path for the project to begin.

In Phase One we will design and facilitate the restoration and historic integrity of the building, elevate the structure approximately 9 feet, and provide a new wet-flood proof foundation to prevent future flooding due to sea-level rise.

Shortlisted for Another Adaptive Reuse Project

HD Squared is shortlisted for another historic, adaptive reuse project known as the Fairview Mansion in Prince George’s County.

This home, circa 1800, has a long, prominent history including being the home of Gov. Oden Bowie. Chance Academy plans to restore and remodel Fairview Mansion to host its administrative offices as well as select academic and social events.

This mission–driven project will be an amazing resource for the community, showcasing the community’s history and sustainable living while engaging and educating.

HD Squared would be honored to be a part of this amazing team.

Keep those positive vibes flowing our way
